Build a cutting board with carpenter master Lukas

Hey you! Are you really keen to finally start working with wood properly?
Would you like to learn the basics about wood, wood types, growth rings, softwood, hardwood, gluing, tools, and so on?
Would you like to gain more valuable experience with circular saws, planers, edge sanders, and small machines, and become more confident in using them?
Are terms such as cambium, latewood, inverted gluing, and white spot temperature unfamiliar to you?
Then this beginner's course is just right for you, because
we want to build a cutting board together (approx. 55 x 30 x 2.5 cm).

The course is structured so that you will be part of the entire process of turning a rough board with a tree edge into a finished, oiled workpiece.
In the morning, we want to prepare the wood needed for this. To do this, rough-sawn planks must be trimmed and sawn to width to create individual strips. In a second step, these are planed, joined, and planed to width and thickness.
After gluing the parts together with screw clamps and all kinds of accessories, the glue can set so that the boards can dry over the afternoon.

Next, it's time for formatting, edge formation, and surface treatment:
The boards formatted with the circular saw are marked accordingly and roughly sawn with the band saw. The edge sanding machine then brings them into the exact shape—this requires a lot of feeling and patience.
he edge is shaped using a router and a ball bearing end mill.
A random orbital sander and sandpaper are used for the final finish, and the wood is oiled with food-safe linseed oil-based oil.
You can choose from hard, durable wood that is well suited for everyday use in the kitchen.

In addition to the wood and all kinds of accessories, I will provide you with relevant documentation on cutting and processing, as well as information on wood and machines.

To make it really fun, please come in appropriate work clothes!

We glue and sand, so things should be allowed to get dirty.

I look forward to seeing you there.
Best regards,
Your master carpenter, Lukas Kirchmayr
